West Ham United Football Club, commonly referred to as West Ham or The Hammers, is an English professional football club based out of East London in England. Established as Thames Ironworks FC back in 1895 and later changing to West Ham United (then West Ham Football Club) in 1900. West Ham's history in English football goes back a long way.

West Ham originally competed in the Southern League before eventually joining the Football League in 1919. By 1964, however, they achieved major success by winning their inaugural FA Cup trophy against Preston North End with Geoff Hurst scoring three hat-tricks to claim victory in a memorable final matchup.

West Ham was in its prime during the 1960s and 1970s under Ron Greenwood and John Lyall's management, winning both European Cup Winners' Cup titles (in 1965, then again in 1976) as well as finishing runners-up in First Division in 1986.

West Ham United have become a regular presence in both Premier League and European competition in recent years, often qualifying for tournaments themselves. Their passionate fan base and iconic London Stadium homeground contribute to creating an exciting atmosphere at their matches.

West Ham United's history is punctuated with iconic players, such as Bobby Moore, Sir Trevor Brooking and Paolo Di Canio. Today the club continues its efforts for success in English football by competing to secure silverware while creating entertaining football that brings people together.
