Villarreal Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Villarreal CF or simply Villarreal, is a Spanish professional football club based in Villarreal, a town in the province of Castellon, in the Valencian Community. Founded on 10 March 1923, the club has a relatively short history compared to some of Spain's older clubs, but has enjoyed considerable success in its relatively short existence. .

Villarreal CF spent most of their early years playing in the regional and lower divisions of Spanish football. It was not until the late 1990s and early 2000s that the club began to make significant national and European influence.

Under the guidance of coaches such as Víctor Muñoz and Manuel Pellegrini, Villarreal CF was promoted to La Liga for the first time in the 1998-99 season. Since then, the club has continuously competed in La Liga and established itself as a top team.

The 2005-2006 season was an outstanding campaign for Villarreal. They finished third in La Liga, securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history. In their first Champions League campaign, Villarreal reached the semi-finals, a respectable achievement for a relatively small club.

Villarreal CF has also enjoyed considerable success in domestic cup competitions. They reached the final of the UEFA Europa League (formerly the UEFA Cup) in the 2003-04 season, losing to Valencia CF in a thrilling all-Spanish final. They also won the Intertoto Cup in 2003, qualifying for the UEFA Cup (now UEFA Europa League).

The club's home ground is the Estadio de la Cerámica (formerly known as El Madrigal), where many memorable matches have been played and enthusiastically cheered by the fans.
